The Coffee Ride: Fresh Mountain Coffee Delivered by Bike
“The ride doesn’t need to mean bike, it can mean whatever you need it to mean. Maybe that’s your morning commute in your car and you’re drinking your coffee, and it’s that moment that you have to yourself before life explodes and is chaotic,” founder Josh Crane told us. He said, “the idea of The Coffee Ride is being able to recreate whatever those special moments are, and recreating happy experiences that you’re able to give to yourself.”
The “normal work setting” wasn’t working for Josh, so he packed up his car and moved to the mountains of Breckenridge, CO to pursue med school with the hopes of improving the quality of life for others through becoming a doctor. Hours of studying and way too many cups of coffee later he realized that there might be another way to do just that: freshly roasted coffee.
He started roasting with just a whirly pop and a meat thermometer, and quickly realized he was able to change the lives of others through a simple method of obtaining the freshness coffee has to offer. The genuine experience and enjoyment that others, along with himself, were having from having a hand in the process was something there was no looking back on. So Josh took it one step further wanting to do nothing more than to share the same experience with others.
Applying a Love For Science and Cycling
Absolutely falling in love with the roasting process and being able to apply his scientific knowledge and understanding of chemical reactions meant there was no looking back.
In 2013, based at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder, CO, The Coffee Ride was founded to deliver fresh coffee the only way the cyclist crazed city and bike-loving founder knew how – by the power of pedals. Their products mix a passion for cycling and coffee and are a proud nod to the thriving cycling community. But it doesn’t stop there.
Nostalgic for his grandfather being a milkman and having that connection to the delivery process and the person that makes the product, Josh wanted to apply that to his business. “Customers wake up and the milk would be there, but you always knew Jerry delivered it even though you never saw him.” The Coffee Ride offers a “modern milkman” twist, delivering coffee fresh by bike for local residents in the Boulder area.

Their coffee represents the unique flavors of each region their beans come from, and at the end of the day, they offer a very balanced cup of premium coffee. It’s a combination of sourcing the right beans, attention to detail, and not sacrificing quality along the way. Josh said, “it’s this whole idea of the circle of life and you can’t really just pull one thing out otherwise you break that cycle, so it’s a continuation of that process and the benefits are you’re getting better coffee.”
Seven years later, and on Thursday’s alone, Josh has racked up over 16,000 thousand miles dedicated to hand-delivering coffee to his local community. The process of the business and the dedication to detail in roasting, proves The Coffee Ride to be a treasure in the small-batch coffee industry. You simply can’t make up what Josh has started, and you certainly can’t find the mouthwatering flavors he brings out with a scientific approach anywhere else.
Lucky for you, this roaster has curated a box to provide the Lokoly Coffee Club with “a taste of the Rockies”. The Coffee Ride has provided you with the euphoric experience that coffee has to offer, ready to ship nationwide. Cheers!
